Build Strong

For more than 60 years, Southern Academy has provided an exemplary education for preK-12 students in Greensboro and has enjoyed significant growth recently. Families choosing SA, some commuting from contingent counties, want more from their school system. They prefer a private school that feels like a family, with high-quality academics and enhanced opportunities for their children to thrive. As a temporary solution, existing classrooms have been split to accommodate more teaching space.
With Southern Academy enrollment climbing to 380+ for the 2026-27 school year, the time for our administration to act is now. Ward Scott Morris Architecture of Tuscaloosa has designed a new building for Southern Academy: four hardened classrooms doubling as an ICC 500-rated storm shelter to protect our entire student body and staff. According to National Weather Service data, three tornadoes touched down in Hale County in 2025, and severe weather is a constant threat to our area.
Friends of Southern, Inc.—a 501(c)(3) organization supporting Southern Academy projects—is proud to launch the BUILD STRONG Capital Campaign to meet our most immediate needs. Groundbreaking on the new facility is slated for Fall 2026, and we are ready to challenge community leaders to invest in our safety and our future.
We invite you to consider partnering in this important effort to help Southern Academy improve, expand and modernize.
